JEE Main 2025 Apr 3 Shift 2, Physics Q7: Bohr Model of the Hydrogen Atom
Given below are two statements : one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R.
Assertion A : The Bohr model is applicable to hydrogen and hydrogen-like atoms only.
Reason R : The formulation of Bohr model does not include repulsive force between electrons.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- A
Both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A.
- B
A is false but R is true.
- C
Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
- D
A is true but R is false.
The Bohr model treats a single electron orbiting a nucleus. For multi-electron atoms, electron-electron Coulomb repulsion is significant and cannot be ignored, but the Bohr formulation contains no such term.
This limitation is precisely why the model works only for one-electron systems such as H, He, Li, etc. Hence both statements are true, and R correctly explains A.
