A square loop of sides $a = 1$ m is held normally in front of a point charge $q = 1 C$ . The flux of the electric field through the shaded region is $\frac{5}{p} \cdot \frac{1}{ε _{0}} \frac{Nm ^{2}}{C}$ , where the value of $p$ is ____.

Assume distance of charge q from the square loop is $\frac{a}{2} .$

Solution

Total flux through square $= \frac{q}{ε _{0}} (\frac{1}{6})$

Let us divide the square into $8$ equal parts.

Flux is the same for each part.

$∴$ Flux through the shaded portion is $\frac{5}{8}$ (Total flux)

$=\dfrac{5}{8}\times\dfrac{q}{\varepsilon_0}\times\dfrac{1}{6} =\dfrac{5}{48}\dfrac{q}{\varepsilon_0}$

$∴$ Required Ans. is $48$ .
