JEE Main 2025 Jan 24 Shift 2, Physics Q7: Electric Potential

In the first configuration (1) as shown in the figure, four identical charges are kept at the corners A, B, C and D of square of side length 'a'. In the second configuration (2), the same charges are shifted to mid points G, E, H and F, of the square. If , the difference between the potential energies of configuration (2) and (1) is given by :
- A
- B
- C
- D
For 4 charges, there are unique pairs. In each configuration count how many pairs are at distance "side" and how many at distance "diagonal".
Configuration (1) - charges at corners of a square of side :
- 4 pairs along sides, separation - contribute
- 2 pairs along diagonals, separation - contribute
Configuration (2) - charges at midpoints of the square sides. These four midpoints themselves form a smaller square whose side is (midpoint-to-adjacent-midpoint along a 45° line) and whose diagonal is (e.g. G to H, opposite midpoints).
Difference:
Correct option: (4)
