JEE Main 2025 Jan 28 Shift 1, Chemistry Q3: Oxidation and Reduction
Match the List-I with List-II
| List-I (Redox Reaction) | List-II (Type of Redox Reaction) | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| A | (I) | Disproportionation reaction | |
| B | (II) | Combination reaction | |
| C | (III) | Decomposition reaction | |
| D | (IV) | Displacement reaction | |
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- A
A-II, B-III, C-IV, D-I
- B
A-II, B-III, C-I, D-IV
- C
A-III, B-IV, C-I, D-II
- D
A-IV, B-I, C-II, D-III
Classify each reaction by what happens to the species involved:
(A) Methane combines with oxygen to give CO and water. Two reactants form fewer products, so this is a combination reaction (II).
(B) Sodium hydride breaks apart on heating into sodium metal and hydrogen gas. A single compound splits into two species, so this is a decomposition reaction (III).
(C) Calcium reduces VO by taking its oxygen, displacing vanadium metal. This is a displacement reaction (IV).
(D) In HO, oxygen has the state and ends up partly as in O and partly as in HO. The same element is both oxidised and reduced, so this is a disproportionation reaction (I).
A-II, B-III, C-IV, D-I.
