In qualitative analysis, Group V cations (${\text{Ba}}^{2+}$, ${\text{Sr}}^{2+}$, ${\text{Ca}}^{2+}$) are precipitated using $({\text{NH}}_4{)}_2{\text{CO}}_3$ in presence of ${\text{NH}}_4\text{Cl}$ and ${\text{NH}}_4\text{OH}$.

Both ${\text{Ba}}^{2+}$ and ${\text{Ca}}^{2+}$ are precipitated as their respective carbonates: ${\text{BaCO}}_3$ and ${\text{CaCO}}_3$.
