JEE Advanced2025Paper 1CHEM-IV
Q.

Match the compounds in List-I with the appropriate observations in List-II and choose the correct option.

  1. A

    P 1; Q 5; R 4; S 2

  2. B

    P 2; Q 5; R 1; S 3

  3. C

    P 5; Q 2; R 1; S 4

  4. D

    P 2; Q 1; R 5; S 3

Solution

(P) The compound has a free -amino group and a phenolic –OH. It would give a positive ninhydrin test (free -amino acid character) and the phenolic group gives a violet colour with FeCl. Matches (2).

(Q) Both nitrogens are masked (one acetyl, one amide), and the carboxyl is esterified. Complete hydrolysis liberates the free amino acids, which then give a positive ninhydrin test. No phenolic OH is present, so the phthalein dye test is negative. Matches (5).

(R) On warming or basification, anilinium chloride frees aniline, which couples with a phenyl diazonium salt at the para-position to form p-aminoazobenzene, a yellow azo dye. Matches (1).

(S) An arylhydrazine condenses with the aldehyde carbonyl of glucose to give a hydrazone (and on excess hydrazine an osazone). Matches (3).

P2, Q5, R1, S3. Option (B).
