Step 1 (Schotten–Baumann acylation): The primary amine reacts with $C_{6} H_{5} C O C l$ in $N a O H$ to give the amide [A] = cyclohexyl- $C H_{2}$ -NH-CO- $C_{6} H_{5}$ .

Step 2 ( $L i A l H_{4}$ reduction): The amide C=O is reduced to $C H_{2}$ , giving the secondary amine [B] = cyclohexyl- $C H_{2}$ -NH- $C H_{2}$ - $C_{6} H_{5}$ .
