Solution

Speed of a transverse wave on a stretched string: $v = \frac{T}{μ}$ , so $v \propto T$ .

With $T_{f} = 2 T_{i}$ : $\frac{v _{i}}{v _{f}} = \frac{T _{i}}{2 T _{i}} = \frac{1}{2}$ .

Hence $v_{i} : v_{f} = 1 : 2$ .
