Solution

A glycosidic bond between two glucose units forms with the loss of one water molecule (dehydration).

Adding the atoms: $2 \times C_{6} H_{12} O_{6} = C_{12} H_{24} O_{12}$ .

Subtracting one H $_{2}$ O: $C_{12} H_{24} O_{12} - H_{2} O = C_{12} H_{22} O_{11}$ .

So maltose has the molecular formula C $_{12}$ H $_{22}$ O $_{11}$ .
