Q.

Given below are two statements :

Statement I :

The coagulum is formed of network of threads called thrombins.

Statement II :

Spleen is the graveyard of erythrocytes.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below :

  1. A

Both Statement I and Statement II are correct

  2. B

Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect

  3. C

Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect

  4. D

Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct

Solution

The coagulum (blood clot) is formed of a network of fibrin threads, not thrombin. Thrombin is the enzyme that converts soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin. So Statement I is incorrect.

After completing their lifespan of about 120 days, erythrocytes are destroyed mainly in the spleen, which is therefore aptly described as the graveyard of red blood cells. Statement II is correct.
