Solution

To determine whether a dominant-phenotype individual is homozygous ( $B B$ ) or heterozygous ( $B b$ ), a test cross is performed by crossing it with the homozygous recessive ( $bb$ ). If all offspring are black, the parent is $B B$ ; if half are white, the parent is $B b$ .
