A full wave rectifier circuit with diodes $D_{1}$ and $D_{2}$ is shown in the figure. If input supply voltage $V_{in} = 220 sin (100 π t)$ volt, then at $t = 15$ ms:

Solution

At $t = 15$ ms: $V_{in} = 220 sin (100 π \times 15 \times 1 0^{- 3}) = 220 sin (1.5 π) = 220 sin (3 π /2) = - 220$ V.

The input is in its negative half-cycle. In a centre-tapped full-wave rectifier, during the negative half-cycle the bottom diode ( $D_{2}$ ) conducts (forward biased) and the top diode ( $D_{1}$ ) is reverse biased.
