(Consider the density of water = 1000 kg m $^{- 3}$ , 1 atm = $1 \times 1 0^{5}$ Pa and gravitational acceleration g = 10 m/s $^{2}$ )

Solution

Absolute pressure at depth $h$ in water is $P = P_{0} + h ρ g$ , where $P_{0}$ is atmospheric pressure.

$h = \frac{P - P _{0}}{ρ g} = \frac{( 100 - 1 ) \times 1 0 ^{5}}{1 0 ^{3} \times 10} = 990$ m.
