JEE Main 2025 Apr 4 Shift 2, Physics Q12: Rolling Motion
JEE Main2025Apr 4, Shift 2Physics
Q.
A wheel is rolling on a plane surface. The speed of a particle on the highest point of the rim is 8 m/s. The speed of the particle on the rim of the wheel at the same level as the centre of wheel, will be :
- A
m/s
- B
8 m/s
- C
4 m/s
- D
m/s
Solution

For pure rolling without slipping, the contact point is the instantaneous centre of rotation. The speed of any point on the rim equals times its distance from the contact point.
Top of the rim is at a distance from the contact, so its speed is m/s, giving the centre speed m/s.
A point at the same horizontal level as the centre (e.g. the side of the rim) lies at a distance from the contact point. Its speed is
m/s.
