JEE Main 2025 Jan 22 Shift 1, Chemistry Q11: Properties of Alkynes
Given below are two statements :
Statement I : One mole of propyne reacts with excess of sodium to liberate half a mole of H gas.
Statement II : Four g of propyne reacts with NaNH to liberate NH gas which occupies 224 mL at STP.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
- A
Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.
- B
Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect
- C
Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct
- D
Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
Propyne (CHCCH) has one acidic terminal CH. With Na, one mole of propyne releases mole H (one H removed per molecule). Statement I is correct.
For Statement II: molar mass of propyne g/mol, so g mol. With NaNH, this liberates mol NH. At STP, mol of gas occupies mL, not mL. Statement II is incorrect.
Statement I correct, Statement II incorrect.
