JEE Main 2025 Jan 23 Shift 2, Chemistry Q11: Mechanism of Some Important Reactions of Alkenes
Match List - I with List - II.
| List - I (Isomers of CH) | List - II (Ozonolysis product) | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| (A) | ![]() | (I) | ![]() |
| (B) | ![]() | (II) | ![]() |
| (C) | ![]() | (III) | ![]() |
| (D) | ![]() | (IV) | ![]() |
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- A
(A)-(II), (B)-(III), (C)-(I), (D)-(IV)
- B
(A)-(III), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(II)
- C
(A)-(III), (B)-(II), (C)-(I), (D)-(IV)
- D
(A)-(I), (B)-(IV), (C)-(III), (D)-(II)
Each CH candidate contains an aromatic benzene ring fused to a five-membered ring bearing one CC bond (the only bond cleavable by ozonolysis). The ring-opening at the alkene gives an aromatic ring that picks up two carbonyls from the broken CC; oxidative work-up converts both fragments to carbonyl groups whose pattern fingerprints which isomer was present.
Matching the position of the double bond and any methyl substituent on each starting framework with the carbonyl skeleton produced gives:
(A) (III), (B) (IV), (C) (I), (D) (II).
