Solution

The least count is $\frac{1 mm}{10} = 0.1 mm$ .

Because the Vernier zero lies to the right of the main-scale zero with jaws closed, the error is positive (the instrument reads too high and the correction must be subtracted).

Magnitude of zero error $= 7 \times 0.1 mm = 0.7 mm = 0.07 cm$ .

Therefore the calipers have a $0.07 cm$ positive zero error.
