During glycolysis, the conversion of one glucose molecule to two pyruvate molecules produces a net gain of 2 ATP by substrate-level phosphorylation and 2 NADH.

When the 2 NADH are subsequently oxidised through the electron transport chain, each contributes about 3 ATP, so 2 NADH yield 6 ATP.

Total net ATP gain per glucose during glycolysis (counting NADH conversion): ATP.
