PCl $_{3}$ + 3 ROH gives 3 RCl plus phosphorous acid, H $_{3}$ PO $_{3}$ (A).

PCl $_{5}$ + ROH gives RCl, HCl, and phosphoryl chloride, POCl $_{3}$ (B).
