NEET2025Chemistry
Q.
Which one of the following reactions does NOT give benzene as the product?

- A
CHCOONa + soda lime,
- B
n-hexane, MoO, 773 K, 10–20 atm
- C
HCCH, red hot iron tube at 873 K
- D
CHNCl + HO, warm
Solution

(1) Sodium benzoate with soda lime undergoes decarboxylation to give benzene.
(2) n-Hexane undergoes aromatization (catalytic reforming) over MoO to give benzene.
(3) Three molecules of acetylene undergo cyclic polymerisation on red-hot iron tube to give benzene.
(4) Benzene diazonium chloride on warming with water gives phenol (CHOH), not benzene. The diazo group is replaced by OH.
Option (4) does not give benzene.
