Excess CH $_{3}$ MgBr can attack both electrophilic carbons in the substrate.

At the aryl ketone (PhC(=O) $-$ ): one equivalent of CH $_{3}^{-}$ adds, giving after H $_{3}$ O $^{+}$ workup a tertiary alcohol Ph $-$ C(CH $_{3}$ )(OH) $-$ .

At the nitrile ( $-$ CN): Grignard addition gives an iminium magnesium salt that hydrolyses on acidic workup to a methyl ketone $-$ C(=O)CH $_{3}$ (this is a classic way of converting RCN to RCOCH $_{3}$ with MeMgBr).

The final product is Ph $-$ C(CH $_{3}$ )(OH) $-$ CH $_{2} -$ CH $_{2} -$ C(=O) $-$ CH $_{3}$ , matching option (2).
