Solution

The longest carbon chain has 7 carbons (heptane). Numbering from the end that gives the substituents the lowest locants, the ethyl group is at position 3 and the methyl group is at position 5. By IUPAC alphabetisation, ethyl comes before methyl.

Hence the name is 3-ethyl-5-methylheptane.
