Solution

1-Propanol with PCl gives 1-chloropropane along with POCl and HCl, so X = POCl.

1-Chloropropane heated with alcoholic KOH undergoes dehydrohalogenation to give propene (Y = CH–CH=CH).

Addition of HBr to propene in the presence of benzoyl peroxide follows the anti-Markovnikov (Kharasch) pathway, giving 1-bromopropane: Z = CHCHCH–Br.
