Metamers are structural isomers of the same homologous series that differ in the alkyl groups attached to the same functional group. Methyl propyl ether (CH${}_3$OCH${}_2$CH${}_2$CH${}_3$) and diethyl ether (CH${}_3$CH${}_2$OCH${}_2$CH${}_3$) both have molecular formula C${}_4$H${}_{10}$O and both are ethers, but differ in the alkyl groups on either side of the O — classic metamerism.
