Solution

Resultant force magnitude: $F_{r es} = 6^{2} + 8^{2} = 10$ N.

Acceleration $a = F_{r es} / m = 10/5 = 2$ m/s $^{2}$ .

Direction (angle from the 8 N force): $tan θ = 6/8 = 3/4$ , so $θ = tan^{- 1} (3/4)$ .
