Q.
In the following reactions, which one is NOT correct?
- A
1
- B
2
- C
3
- D
4
Solution

The benzenediazonium ion reacts with ethanol not by substitution to give a phenyl ether, but by reduction: ethanol acts as a hydride source and the diazonium group is replaced by H, releasing and giving benzene. This is a deamination via the Schiemann-type/reductive pathway.
So option (1), which shows , is the incorrect transformation.
Options (2), (3) and (4) are standard: reductive deamination, KI iodination, and the Sandmeyer cyanation with respectively, all proceed as written.
