Nitriles ( $R - C \equiv N$ ) are reduced to primary amines ( $R - C H_{2} - N H_{2}$ ) by powerful reducing agents:

(A) LiAlH $_{4}$ followed by H $_{2}$ O reduces nitriles to 1° amines.

(D) Na(Hg)/C $_{2}$ H $_{5}$ OH (dissolving metal reduction) gives 1° amine.

Sn/HCl is generally used for reducing nitro compounds; Br $_{2}$ /aq. NaOH is Hofmann bromamide degradation of amides, not reduction of nitriles. Correct set: A, C and D.
