Solution
Foul-smelling Z indicates an isocyanide. From CHCl, isocyanide is formed using AgCN (silver cyanide directs N-attack), giving CHNC.
From the amide, Hofmann bromamide degradation with Br/NaOH gives the primary amine ethylamine (Y). The carbylamine reaction of this primary amine with CHCl/ethanolic KOH yields the isocyanide CHNC (Z).
So X = AgCN and Z = CHNC.
